Wetland Biomonitoring: Odonates Survey at Elthuruth by The Department of Botany, St. Thomas College (Autonomous), Thrissur,

The Department of Botany, St. Thomas College (Autonomous), Thrissur, in association with World Wide Fund for Nature and St. Aloysius College, Elthuruth has conducted an Odonates (Dragonflies and Damselflies) survey at Kole wetlands of  Thrissur on 28.09.2023.

The programme is a part of the National level Dragonfly Festival conducted by the World Wide Fund for Nature for a continuous monitoring of dragonfly population and ecology along the major wetlands of India. The present survey records 14 species of dragonflies and damselflies from 500 mts transect in the Kole wetlands near Elthuruth, Thrissur.  The Biomonitoring survey will last for 4 months and the species and population data will be uploaded to the India Biodiversity Portal, for the public.

The postgraduate students of Botany, St. Thomas College (Autonomous), Thrissur and graduate students of Zoology, St. Aloysius College, Elthuruth participated in today's survey. Dr Joby Paul, Dr Jain Therattil and Mr Subin KS took the lead in the survey.
