The Bioblitz second edition started @ St. Thomas College (Autonomous) Thrissur

The Department of Botany of St. Thomas College (Autonomous), Thrissur in association with Kerala State Biodiversity board started a two-day workshop for Digital flora, QR coding, and Mapping of Campus trees in college and school campuses on 06.10.2023. The workshop aims to train school and college students to assess, document and publish the campus biodiversity in a digital open platform. The workshop was inaugurated by Fr. (Dr.) Martin K.A., Principal, St. Thomas College (Autonomous), Thrissur and Mr Febin Francis, Thrissur District coordinator, Kerala State Biodiversity Board, delivered a keynote lecture. 

Dr. Geethu Elizabath Thomas, Head of the Department of Botany delivered the welcome and Dr. Joby Paul proposed the vote of thanks to the inaugural ceremony. The second session was started with a talk on Biodiversity by Dr. Joby Paul, Department of Botany, St. Thomas College, Thrissur. After that, Ms. Sreeshma P.S., Department of Botany, St. Thomas College, Thrissur delivered a talk on How to conduct biodiversity assessment by survey method. Later, Ms. Divya P. Venugopal, Department of Botany, St. Thomas College, Thrissur discourse a talk on the Identification of Common plants. Afternoon, Ms Sreelakshmi V., College of Forestry, Kerala Agriculture University, Thrissur delivered an invited lecture on the Birds in the Backyard, followed by Mr Abhin M. Sunil, College of Forestry, Kerala Agriculture University, Thrissur discussed on the Butterflies in the backyard. Later, Mr. Vivek Chandran A., Christ College, Irinjalakkuda delivered an invited lecture on the Dragonflies and Damselflies.

A total of 60 students from 13 Hish schools of Thrissur district and 6 colleges from Kerala participated in the first day of the workshop. The workshop will continue for 07.10.23 including fieldwork, practical sessions and presentations on biodiversity data collection, documentation and publication in open platforms.
