The Department of Microbiology and Biochemistry at St. Berchmans College, Changanacherry has been a beacon of academic excellence since its inception in 2002. Initially established under the Department of Zoology, the department has evolved over the years, carving a niche for itself in the realms of microbiology and biochemistry education. Currently, the Department of Microbiology and Biochemistry proudly hosts one undergraduate and two postgraduate courses under the self-financing stream. The undergraduate program, B. Sc. Industrial Microbiology and Zoology, was introduced in 2002. In 2006, the department introduced the M. Sc. Biochemistry program, offering postgraduate students an opportunity to delve into the intricate world of biochemical processes, molecular biology, and the applications of biochemistry in various scientific domains. Responding to the growing demand for expertise in microbiology, the department introduced the M. Sc. Microbiology program in 2014. The Department of Microbiology and Biochemistry stands as a testament to St. Berchmans College's commitment to providing quality education in the ever-evolving fields of microbiology and biochemistry. With a rich history and a forward-looking approach, the department continues to shape the future of aspiring scientists and researchers.
