Department of Commerce and Management Studies (University of Calicut) is organising a Two-Day National Workshop on "Social Science Research: A Scientific Dimension" on 2nd and 3rd March 2023. This workshop is a part of a series of programs named "DAKSHINA" organised by the DCMS to honour and respect the glorious academic contributions of the retiring Professor Dr B. Johnson.

About the University The Department of Commerce and Management Studies Established in 1972, DCMS is one of the major teaching departments on the University's main campus, with over 140 post-graduate MBA and M.Com students, 12 M.Phil students, and over 30 research scholars. In addition, the department has established six self-financing centres at Palakkad, Thrissur, Calicut, Vatakara, Kuttippuram, and Thrissur, where MBA Regular Program is offered. The department's placement bureau has a proven track record of assisting students in securing positions with various management firms. The research and consultancy cell conducts feasibility studies, entrepreneurial development programmes, market research, and other operations for commercial and industrial establishments. There is a well-stocked library and one computer lab in the department. The All India Council for Technical Education has granted accreditation to this department's full-time MBA programmes (AICTE). The department is among the first university departments in Kerala to provide courses in management. The University of Calicut (UoC) was established in 1968 and is the largest university in Kerala in terms of size, affiliated colleges, and the number of degrees awarded. The university serves the educational needs and aspirations of the youth in the Malabar region, which includes some of the most educationally backward districts in the state. With the motto "Nirmaya Karmana Sree," which means "prosperity will be generated through pure actions". The UoC has become the largest residentially affiliated university in Kerala, with 34 post-graduate departments and 406 affiliated colleges. These affiliated colleges are spread across the five northern districts of Kerala: Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur, and Wayanad. Recently, the University celebrated its Golden Jubilee, and "University to Society" was the event's slogan. According to the NIRF ranking 2022, the University of Calicut is ranked 69th in the university category and 101st overall. The 4th cycle of the NAAC rated the university A+ with a CGPA of 3.45.
